Whose Armor Do You Wear?
Weekly devotional by Barbara Sanders

cross Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

We all recall the story of David, the youngest son of Jesse, and the giant named Goliath. If someone killed Goliath, then the Philistines would be their servants. But if Goliath killed their man, then they would all be servants to the Philistines.

Well, David wasn't afraid of Goliath; his Father, Jesse, had sent him to the battle and he obeyed. But Eliab, the oldest of David's brothers, got angry at David for coming to the battle. Others laughed at such a small young boy coming to kill such a huge, 9 foot giant who dwarfed him in stature!! But the stature of the giant didn't upset David, for God was his backing/covering and he had a covenant with God. The uncircumcised Philistine had no covenant.

Saul gave him the okay to go after the giant and said God would watch over him. But he also wanted David to put on the armor of a soldier. But David had never tried the armor and he felt it just wasn't for him. Ever tried putting on someone else's clothes and they felt awkward? I'm sure this is how David viewed the soldier's armor that day. So he took his staff, sling and five stones and went to the battle - ARMED with the 'armor of God'. He had put his whole trust in the Lord.

Psalms 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

David knew in whom he served. He preferred to put his whole trust in God, not in the armor. He gave God the glory 'before' the battle. He began to speak faith, and Goliath never got to speak again!! He drew back the sling and put in a stone and the stone hit Goliath in the head, knocking him down on his stomach. Then David went and stood on his back, drew the sword from Goliath's side, and slew him.

We should try to be like David - take the armor of God and face the devil with faith that God will do what he has said. Don't let the devil get the upper hand. Put on the 'offensive armor' of God and God will protect the backside.

Isaiah 52:12 For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your rereward.

Heavenly Father, help us to be bold and put our full trust in you, to take us through the rough waters of life, through the battles that we face each day with the enemy. Help us to know that YOU and you alone are the one that will keep us against all the wiles of the devil, if only we place our trust in you. Help us to know You in the fullest of your power, that you are the Alpha and the Omega, and nothing inbetween will keep us as You will, in this present world. I pray that each of us put on the true armor of God, arming ourselves with TRUTH in order to stand until your return. We give you the glory, honor, and praise due your name. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
