Guard Your Treasures! Weekly devotional by Barbara Sanders
Matthew 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: |

Talk about losing 'treasures'..... I had a scare last night! If you are computer buff, then you certainly share my sentiments! You have so much 'knowledge' stored on the computer, that any interruption in that process (i.e. CRASH) would be devastating! Well, last night,
I thought I had experienced just that! I was in the process of making an animated gif for my web site. All of a sudden, I heard a big bang, and my machine shut down automatically! I tried resetting to no avail; would NOT reboot without inserting the backup disk. So, I just hit the off button, and rebooted
that way. But, when I started to try the animation program again, it hung up and did the same thing again. I said, okay, guess my hard drive has 'bit the dust'. Was I upset!
Maybe your treasure lies in cars, diamonds, or perhaps the stock market (a very easy place to lose it!). You may be a collector of paintings or antiques - anything that gives you 'pleasure', that is worth something to you. You stand a chance of
losing all these 'treasures'......either by burglarly, wrecks, fires, or the 'CRASH'!
The Bible says for us not to lay up our treasures here on earth. I was talking to a friend the other night and this devotional came to me in the form of this sentence: We should not lay up our treasures in earthly vessels. And, this is true. Earthly is only temporal. The earth and all those
worldly possessions will soon pass away. But, the treasures that we should be concerned with shouldn't be the earthly treasures, but those spiritual treasures which are eternal. We live and have our being in Christ. We should be zealous in our worship of Him, knowing that the joys and peace of life eternal if more
than anything we can have as a 'treasure' here on earth.

| Heavenly Father, humans are foolish, and sometimes we can't help ourselves! But, Lord, help us to realize it's not in our earthly possessions, but in our spiritual lives, where we get satisfaction. We give you praise! Jesus name we pray. Amen. |
